The yearning for a home that somehow exists everywhere, yet nowhere at all.
Following a personal journey, ‘everywhere; yet nowhere’ investigates how the nostalgia we carry for past homes shapes our relationship with future homes. The notion of home is everchanging and elusive, constantly influenced by an individual’s experiences in the evolving world. As things change and the world moves forward, our memories serve as trinkets of treasured moments, decorations that are solidified to our core understanding of home; much like a beloved tablecloth or placemat.
Throughout my twenty-four years on this earth, I have lived in fifteen different houses between four different cities.
At each one of these places, with each group of people, I have always found a homely connection to the space. Both the memories and the walls themselves have served as sanctuaries for me and those around me. Each house has brought something new, a new room, a new neighbourhood. Each city has brought new memories, new friends and new adventures. The time spent in those spaces with the people around me has made me feel at home, safe within myself and my surroundings
These cherished moments are things I will carry with me for the rest of my life. These memories of homes past and future are things that have and will continue to shape me as a human being, and I will be forever grateful for each and every space.
