Previously known as ‘The Halfway’, Glenside is a suburb located in the Northern Region of Wellington. The suburb lies halfway between Porirua and Wellington City, hence the name ‘the halfway’. As people made the journeys between the two places, they would stop at the accommodation, or ‘halfway house’ to rest for the next half of their journeys. As time progressed and the population of Wellington grew, residential areas spread further north, so the area developed into a residential suburb with an intriguing history.
The suburb acts as a pocket of history in an ever-developing society. As we all move through our lives we pay less and less attention to the journeys that those before us made.
